Fast‑Tracked Growth and New Standards
Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda underscored the brisk rise of AIIMS Bilaspur, noting that the hospital has already eclipsed its original 750‑bed goal and now operates with 776 beds. In a remarkably short span, it has introduced 26 specialty and 15 super‑specialty departments, spanning sophisticated cardiac catheterisations, cutting‑edge radiotherapy and complex neurosurgical procedures.
Patient Turnout Reaches Record Levels
The outpatient department (OPD) has logged more than 12 lakh consultations over the last four years, while inpatient admissions have crossed the one‑lakh threshold. In the fiscal year 2024‑25 alone, OPD visits topped three lakh and diagnostic investigations exceeded ten lakh, reflecting growing community confidence in the centre’s capabilities.
Academic Achievements and Leadership Highlights
AIIMS Bilaspur admitted its maiden MBBS batch in January 2021 and was officially inaugurated in October 2022. The recent convocation marked the graduation of its first cohort, a milestone for the institute’s academic agenda. President Droupadi Murmu, who graced the ceremony, urged the new doctors to centre their practice around service to humanity and to extend quality healthcare to the remote corners of Himachal Pradesh.
Expanding Clinical Capabilities
Beyond the rising bed count, the hospital now delivers a wide spectrum of high‑end procedures: major surgeries, cardiac interventions, dialysis, comprehensive diagnostics and dedicated oncology care. Faculty and staff have been praised for achieving this expansion at a velocity that typically takes newer AIIMS campuses many more years.
Future Outlook
Minister Nadda expressed confidence that, within the next two to three years, AIIMS Bilaspur will stand shoulder‑to‑shoulder with the nation’s premier AIIMS institutions. Ongoing investment in specialised departments and patient‑centred services is poised to cement its status as a leading hub for advanced healthcare and medical education in Himachal Pradesh.
