Nomination Lodged at the State Assembly

On Tuesday, veteran BJP leader Dinesh Arya formally entered the contest for Uttarakhand’s solitary Rajya Sabha seat by submitting his nomination papers at the state Assembly in Dehradun. The ceremony was graced by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, state BJP president Mahendra Bhatt, a host of ministers, legislators and senior party officials.

Arya’s Political Trajectory

A native of Nainital district and a member of the Scheduled Caste community, Arya has been a devoted party worker for decades. He previously headed the BJP’s Nainital district unit and has occupied pivotal positions in the party’s Scheduled Caste Morcha. Currently, he is the vice‑chairperson of the Uttarakhand State‑Level Drinking Water Monitoring Council – a role that carries the rank of Minister of State – and also serves as the Public Relations Officer to Chief Minister Dhami.

Chief Minister’s Praise

Following the filing, CM Dhami lauded Arya as a tireless cadre who rose through the party ranks by steadfast dedication. He underscored that selecting a candidate from a modest background highlights the pathways available to members who consistently serve the organisation. Dhami also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the national leadership for backing Arya’s candidature.

Electoral Outlook

The poll for Uttarakhand’s lone Rajya Sabha seat is scheduled for 16 October. The sitting MP, BJP’s Naresh Bansal, will relinquish the post on 25 November when his term ends. Given the BJP’s robust majority in the state assembly, Arya’s victory is widely seen as a foregone conclusion, delivering a reassuring message to party workers about the dividends of long‑term commitment.
