In a coordinated crackdown, the Faridabad Crime Branch’s Sector‑30 team seized an eye‑watering 2,496 kg of firecracker‑making raw material from a modest flat in Mukesh Colony, Ballabhgarh. The cache, consisting of roughly 2,296 kg of potassium nitrate and 200 kg of sulphur, led authorities to apprehend a local resident identified as Puneet.
Anonymous Tip Sparks the Operation
The raid was launched after an unnamed informant warned officials about a large quantity of explosive‑grade chemicals being hoarded in a residential neighbourhood. Acting swiftly on the lead, officers detained Puneet and swept the premises, uncovering the huge stockpile.
Possible Connection to Hathras
Preliminary questioning revealed that the chemicals had been shipped from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh. Investigators are now tracing the trail back to chemical dealers in Hathras who may have facilitated the transfer.
Wider Network Under Investigation
Detectives are examining whether the seized material was intended for illegal firecracker manufacturing or formed part of a broader, organised syndicate. Although Puneet has no prior criminal record, police are canvassing the locality and reaching out to potential business contacts to map the full distribution network.
Safety Concerns for the Public
Storing such a large amount of volatile chemicals in a densely populated area raises serious safety alarms. The seized substances have been secured, and the probe continues to determine their intended destination and any additional conspirators.
What Comes Next
Puneet remains in police custody for a three‑day remand while investigators intensify their inquiries. The focus now shifts to pinpointing the original source of the chemicals and uncovering whether other individuals or firms were complicit in the illicit procurement.
