Hathras – In a surprise verification exercise conducted by the state transport department outside Bagla Combined District Hospital on Monday evening, five privately‑operated ambulances were confiscated for failing to meet mandatory transport regulations.
Why the Sweep Was Initiated?
The operation targeted vehicles lingering near the main gate and the adjacent over‑bridge. Officers from the enforcement wing, headed by Assistant Regional Transport Officer Laxman Prasad and Probationary Transport Officer Ram Babu, examined each ambulance to verify the presence of required paperwork.
Documentation Checked
Inspectors reviewed a comprehensive set of records, such as:
- Vehicle registration certificates
- Fitness certificates
- Insurance policies
- Road‑tax receipts
- Relevant permits and licences
All five ambulances were found missing one or more of these critical documents, leading to their immediate seizure.
Penalties and Legal Actions
Two owners opted to settle the offence on the spot, paying a combined penalty of approximately Rs 12,000. The remaining three ambulances are now subject to formal legal proceedings, and all seized vehicles have been transferred to the ARTO office for further processing.
Continuing Enforcement Efforts
The transport department emphasized that this inspection is part of an ongoing campaign to eliminate unlicensed or improperly documented ambulances operating around the district hospital. Authorities are also keeping a close watch on illegal parking of ambulances that linger near hospital premises while awaiting patients.
By tightening oversight, officials aim to guarantee that every private ambulance serving the community complies with safety and regulatory standards.
