Early Wednesday morning, a car carrying four promising cricketers from Deoria collided with the rear of a truck on the Purvanchal Expressway, leaving all four dead on the spot. The youngsters were heading back home after competing in a tennis‑ball cricket event in Lucknow.
Identities of the Victims
The individuals who lost their lives have been identified as:
- Nityanand Prajapati, 26, resident of Bagha village (Mayil police jurisdiction)
- Irfan (also known as Raj), native of Ballia Uttar
- Aniket Singh, from Churia village (Lar police jurisdiction)
- Anand Yadav, hailing from Kohra village
All four were active participants in the local cricket circuit and had travelled together to Lucknow for the tournament held on Tuesday.

Preliminary investigations suggest the car was travelling at a high speed when it struck a truck moving ahead of it. The force of the impact caused the vehicle to crumple, resulting in the instantaneous death of its occupants. Police have launched a formal inquiry to determine the precise cause of the crash.

The news of Nityanand Prajapati’s death sent shockwaves through Bagha village. His father, Manoj Prajapati, rushed to Lucknow with his younger son, Ankit, after receiving the devastating call. Neighbours and relatives gathered at the family home to offer prayers and support.
