Karachi – In the early hours of Monday, the modest Hindu shrine at Rathi village, just outside Nagarparkar, was forcefully entered and its sacred statues shattered. The caretaker stumbled upon the damage at dawn and immediately alerted the local police.

Suspect placed in police custody

Shiva Kaachi, the head of the non‑governmental organisation Pakistan Darawar Ittehad, confirmed that authorities have taken a man into custody, believing him to be the main culprit behind the attack. No further details about the individual or the exact circumstances of his arrest have been disclosed.

The temple’s significance in a predominantly Hindu locale

Despite its small footprint, the Mata Jog Maya Temple is one of many intimate worship sites scattered across the villages surrounding Nagarparkar, an area with a considerable Hindu population. These temples act as focal points for daily prayers, festivals and community gatherings.

Investigation remains ongoing

Investigators are assessing the full scale of the vandalism and determining whether other participants were involved. Forensic teams are collecting evidence while police interview local residents and temple devotees.

Parallel incidents earlier this year

Later in the year, the Kali Mata Temple located in Hyderabad’s Fateh Chowk district suffered a similar act of vandalism, sparking protests and road blockades by the Hindu community. Such recurring attacks have reignited worries about the protection of minority religious sites across Sindh.
