Dehradun – In a grand ceremony at the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched a package of development works worth ₹20.55 crore. The event saw the foundation‑laying for three major constructions valued at ₹20.21 crore and the opening of two smaller initiatives totalling ₹34 lakh.

New Campus Facilities Take Shape

The announced scheme includes an expansive administrative building, a modern amphitheatre for seminars and cultural programs, and a uniquely designed “Nakshatra Vatika” – a garden whose layout mirrors the night‑sky constellations. Additionally, the chief minister unveiled the university’s revamped main entrance gate and a state‑of‑the‑art dental hospital equipped to serve both students and the public.

During the inauguration, CM Dhami offered prayers to Goddess Saraswati and laid flowers at the statue of the late Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, paying homage to his visionary contributions. He emphasized that the university is a crucible for training the next wave of medical professionals, and that these infrastructural upgrades will enrich academic life while catalysing regional progress.

Dhami reiterated Uttarakhand’s resolve to produce competent doctors, nurses and allied‑health workers, stressing that the medical fraternity carries a profound social duty—saving lives and restoring hope. He highlighted compassion, empathy and dedication as the core virtues that must guide the profession.

He also disclosed that a proposal for a super‑speciality hospital on the university campus has been submitted to the Union Ministry of Health, with further development contingent on central approval.

Healthcare Infrastructure Expanding Across Uttarakhand

Aligned with the national agenda of strengthening health services, Uttarakhand is rapidly expanding its own network. The state presently runs five government medical colleges, two more under construction, nine nursing colleges and three dedicated nursing schools.

Super‑speciality departments are being upgraded at the medical colleges in Dehradun, Haldwani and Srinagar. A cutting‑edge cancer institute is under construction in Haldwani, while district hospitals and community health centres are receiving systematic enhancements.

In Kichha, Udham Singh Nagar, a ₹351 crore AIIMS satellite is taking shape to deliver world‑class care to a vast catchment area. Telemedicine platforms and helicopter ambulance services are bridging the distance for remote communities, and the government is accelerating recruitment and training of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff for public hospitals.

Uttarakhand Youth Securing Jobs Abroad

State‑run foreign‑language training programmes are opening pathways to overseas employment. In 2023, sixty aspirants were placed in Japan, while thirteen secured positions in Germany in 2025. One standout story is that of Sapna Rana, who landed a role in Germany after completing intensive German‑language training.

Graduates from Uttarakhand’s institutions are also making their mark in premier Indian establishments such as AIIMS, PGI, the Indian Railways and the Military Nursing Service.

Over 35,000 Government Jobs Created in Five Years

Dhami reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to protecting the future of the state’s youth. A stringent anti‑copying law now governs recruitment examinations, ensuring fairness and transparency. In the last five years, more than 35,000 young Uttarakhandis have entered government service through merit‑based selections.

Medical Education Minister Subodh Uniyal added that the government will continue to pour resources into modern infrastructure for medical colleges, guaranteeing high‑quality education and hands‑on training for students.
