On Monday, attorneys practising at Delhi’s Rohini Courts staged a mass walk‑out, refusing to preside over any cases. The Rohini Court Bar Association declared a total boycott, citing the alleged police assault on advocate Kamaldeep at the Mahendra Park police station.

Alleged Incident at Mahendra Park Police Station

According to the lawyer, the episode took place on 29 September when he was verbally abused and physically manhandled inside the Mahendra Park precinct. The bar’s executive committee immediately escalated the complaint to senior police officials, including the Joint Commissioner of Police and the DCP of the North‑West district, and also informed the Principal District and Sessions Judge.

Bar Says Police Retracted Earlier Assurance

The association first received a verbal assurance that the officers involved would face disciplinary measures. Instead, the lawyers claim a complaint was lodged against Kamaldeep himself, and that senior police officers concealed this development from the bar’s executive committee, violating the trust established by the initial promise.

Police Barred from Court Premises

In protest, the bar has prohibited all police personnel—irrespective of jurisdiction—from entering any part of the Rohini Court complex, including the Nayab Court, for the entire day of 5 October.

Call for Unity Among Lawyers

The association appealed to its members to remain united during the boycott, stressing that the dignity, safety, and professional independence of the legal community must not be compromised. Any attempts to intimidate lawyers, it warned, will be met with lawful resistance.

The standoff underscores an escalating tension between the Rohini Court Bar Association and police authorities over the handling of the September 29 incident. Further developments will be reported as the situation evolves.
