Kullu/Nitthar. A tragic road mishap in the Nitthar sub‑tehsil of Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, has shocked the local community. Around 8:15 PM on Thursday, an Alto sedan slipped from the Dwarch road near Seri and tumbled into a gorge estimated to be 500 metres deep. Both occupants were killed instantly.
Eyewitnesses say the vehicle was travelling toward Durah when, close to Seri, it abruptly left the carriageway and plunged into the steep ravine. News of the accident spread quickly, prompting nearby residents to rush to the scene and join the rescue effort.
Retrieving the bodies proved arduous because of the gorge’s depth and the rugged terrain. Officers from the Nitthar police post, together with local volunteers, conducted a coordinated operation throughout Friday. After intensive work from roughly 1 PM to 3 PM, the two bodies were hoisted back to the road and later taken to Civil Hospital in Nirmand for post‑mortem examinations.
The victims have been identified as Hari Singh, a resident of Shah village in Lot Gram Panchayat, and Shyam Lal, who lived in Dwarch, Durah Gram Panchayat. The Alto was completely destroyed in the fall.
DSP Anni Rajiv Mehta confirmed the fatalities and stated that investigators are still probing the precise cause of the crash.
