Focused Initiative to Re‑Add Overlooked Electors

After the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has been wrapped up, the Uttar Pradesh election apparatus has launched a dedicated outreach programme aimed at locating citizens whose names were unintentionally left out of the freshly updated electoral roll.

Comparing Pre‑SIR and Current Rolls

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will canvass neighborhoods, matching the pre‑SIR list against today’s roll. Anyone who appears on the older list but is missing now will be approached, their details verified, and guided to file Form 6 for inclusion.

Spotlight on First‑Time Voters

The drive also zeroes in on young adults turning 18 for the first time. BLOs have been assigned the goal of reaching roughly 20‑25 new‑eligible voters each week, with a target to finish this segment within a month.

Special Camps for Hard‑to‑Reach Communities

To simplify registration for marginalised groups, temporary camps will be established at the booth level. Extra effort will be made for residents of night shelters, labour colonies, the homeless and other vulnerable sections. Awareness campaigns will be coordinated through schools, local NGOs and the SVEEP programme.

Layered Monitoring and Transparency

The Chief Electoral Officer’s office has directed district officials and registration officers to keep a continuous check on progress. Updates will be reviewed at state, district and booth tiers, with a one‑month deadline to complete household‑level verification.

Why This Effort Is Crucial

The Election Commission has instructed states that have finished SIR to undertake corrective measures, guaranteeing that every eligible voter—whether missed or newly eligible—gets the chance to register.
