Dehradun – A disturbing incident captured on a smartphone, in which a woman was allegedly forced toward a moving car in broad daylight, has sparked outrage in the city’s Nalapani Chowk area. The clip quickly went viral, prompting the Uttarakhand State Women’s Commission to take suo motu cognizance of the case.
What happened?
On a Wednesday morning, a resident of Nalapani Chowk was riding her scooter home after seeing her daughter board a college bus. According to eyewitnesses, a black car with masked occupants followed her and tried to pull her into the vehicle.
The woman resisted fiercely, managing to escape the assailants’ grasp. Nearby female sanitation workers from the Municipal Corporation witnessed the struggle, rushed to the scene, and confronted the men, forcing them to flee.
Commission’s response
Commission Chairperson Kusum Kandwal immediately contacted SP (Rural) Jaya Baluni and Circle Officer Vandana Verma. She demanded a thorough investigation and urged the police to act decisively against the perpetrators.
The police confirmed that a case has been lodged at Raipur police station under relevant sections of the law. To expedite the probe, three Special Investigation Teams have been formed. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify the vehicle and its occupants.
Calls for swift justice
Chairperson Kandwal emphasized that every possible motive—whether personal vendetta, old enmity, or a larger criminal conspiracy—must be examined. She praised the victim’s courage and the quick intervention of the sanitation workers, calling it a testament to community solidarity.
“Incidents that create fear among women cannot be taken lightly,” Kandwal said. “The police must ensure that the culprits are identified, apprehended, and brought to justice without delay.” The Women’s Commission pledged to monitor the investigation’s progress closely.
