Road‑movement plan for Oct 6‑9

Starting Tuesday, Agra will roll out a comprehensive traffic scheme to accommodate the Shri Ram Barat and the three‑day Janakpuri fair. Officials have outlined specific closures, alternate routes and special entry points to handle the surge of worshippers while keeping the city’s arteries clear.

Ban on medium‑ and heavy‑duty trucks on NH‑19

Throughout the Janakpuri celebrations, medium‑ and heavy‑weight trucks are prohibited on the stretch of National Highway‑19 from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. each day. Vehicles travelling from Gwalior toward Firozabad, Hathras and Etah will be redirected via Rohta Canal Junction and the Inner Ring Road, whereas traffic from Jaipur to those destinations will use the Mahuar Cut and the Southern Bypass. On the day of the Ram Barat, NH‑19 will operate normally for light traffic, but heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter Agra’s municipal limits.

Street closures along the Ram Barat procession

The procession route forces the shutdown of several lanes in the historic core. Movement between Belanganj and Ghatiya Azam Khan will be halted, as will the connectors linking Ghatiya with Phulti, Hospital Road with Fawwara, and Manakamneshwar Gate with Daresi. From noon onward, autos, e‑rickshaws, loading tempos and private cars will be barred from Rawatpara, Subhash Bazaar, Chimman Puri and Daresi. Additional restrictions kick in around 4 p.m. for Chhata Bazaar, Kachhari Ghat and Belanganj as the convoy advances.

Janakpuri corridor restrictions

On 7 October, the Ram Barat tableau will move from Manakamneshwar Temple to the Janakpuri venue. The segment between Bhawna Estate intersection and Janakpuri Mahal will remain closed to all traffic. Entry bans on this stretch start at 11 p.m. on 6 October, and any exemption passes previously issued will be nullified for the duration of the festival.

Designated pilgrimage entry points

Five dedicated gates will guide devotees into the Janakpuri grounds:

  • KK Nagar Cut
  • Purushottam Khandelwal Cut
  • Bhawna Estate Cut
  • Bullet Adda Showroom Cut
  • Amar Ujala Cut

Additional access routes are available via Sikandra Tiraha, Purushottam Khandelwal Cut and the Gurudwara Cut.

Parking allocations

Seven parking zones have been earmarked for pilgrims. Notable capacities include roughly 700‑750 spaces at the Naveen Jain plot, 300‑350 at Kamal Chaudhary’s site, and about 200‑225 across three parcels near Dev College. A vehicle‑free corridor will stretch from the barrier near Bhawna Estate Apartments through Janak Mahal to Ramraghu Apartments; residents may pass only with valid proof of residence.

Overall crowd‑management approach

The extensive bans are designed to accommodate the massive influx expected for both celebrations. Police have divided the city into zones and sectors, while security teams will monitor the Ram Barat route with drones. Commuters are urged to plan journeys around the revised routes and respect the time‑bound restrictions. All measures remain in effect until each programme concludes, after which normal traffic conditions will resume.
