Muzaffarpur, Bihar – On 15 October, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary officially opened the Mega Footwear and Accessories Park situated in the Mahwal Industrial Area of Motipur block, marking a bold stride toward industrial growth in the state.

Scale and vision of the park

Covering roughly 62 acres, the new facility is envisioned as a catalyst for Bihar’s leather and footwear ecosystem. Five dedicated leather manufacturing units are slated to commence operations, collectively expected to create approximately 2,100 jobs for residents of Muzaffarpur and surrounding districts.

Ready‑made infrastructure

The Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) has equipped the park with turnkey, G+2 plug‑and‑play sheds. These pre‑fitted structures allow entrepreneurs to start production immediately, eliminating the time‑consuming and capital‑intensive process of constructing a plant from the ground up. The model is particularly beneficial for small and medium‑sized enterprises seeking rapid market entry.

Common Facility Centre (CFC)

A key attraction is the Common Facility Centre, stocked with machinery valued at around ₹8.5 crore. The shared equipment enables emerging manufacturers to access high‑end tools on a pay‑per‑use basis, aligning capital outlay with actual production requirements.

Inauguration ceremony

The ribbon‑cutting ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Union Ministers Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Rajbhushan Nishad, as well as Vaishali MP Veena Devi. The officials toured the premises, inspected the sheds and CFC, and underscored the park’s potential to nurture entrepreneurship.

Security arrangements

Given the high‑profile nature of the event, district authorities imposed a five‑kilometre no‑fly zone around the site and deployed robust ground security to ensure a smooth inauguration.

Economic implications

Analysts anticipate that the park will serve as a springboard for Bihar’s leather and footwear industry, offering modern machinery and ready‑built infrastructure that lower entry barriers for smaller players. While the full impact will become clear once the factories are operational, early signals point toward a substantial boost in local employment and a stronger industrial base for Muzaffarpur.
