Carry Official Press Identification

Reporters heading to protest venues must have a current press card issued by their employer—such as a PIB, DIP or other recognized accreditation—and keep it visibly displayed. Clear identification enables security personnel to distinguish media staff from participants in crowded or high‑risk areas.

Do Not Obstruct Police Operations

The police emphasise that news gathering should never hinder law‑enforcement duties. Journalists are asked to maintain a safe distance from police movements and avoid placing cameras, microphones or tripods where they could impede security arrangements.

Maintain a Protective Buffer from the Crowd

Keeping a reasonable gap between the media, demonstrators and police is deemed essential. Camera teams should select secure, elevated spots for filming and refrain from blending into the protest crowd, thereby minimising the chance of being caught in sudden flare‑ups.

Why the New Advisory?

The advisory follows a spate of recent rallies in the capital. Authorities say the revised protocols aim to safeguard journalists while ensuring public order is not jeopardised.

Police Appeal for Media Cooperation

Delhi Police have called on news organisations and individual reporters to follow the safety measures when covering protests, allowing the press to perform its duties safely without impeding law‑and‑order responsibilities.
