What Happened
Haridwar – In the early hours of Monday, a structural failure caused a section of Amrit Law College’s Dhanouri‑Pirankaliyar block to give way, collapsing onto the area near the campus washrooms. The unexpected incident sent a cloud of dust and debris across the college grounds, where a Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) platoon was on duty.
Rescue Efforts
Witnesses quickly alerted authorities after a PAC officer was seen trapped under the rubble. Officers from Kaliyar police station and the Dhanouri outpost arrived within minutes, joined by local rescue volunteers. The teams worked methodically, breaking through concrete and broken masonry to locate the buried jawan.
After a focused search lasting over an hour, rescuers succeeded in freeing the officer and moving him to a cleared safety zone for first‑aid.
Medical Response and After‑care
The rescued officer, along with several staff members who sustained minor cuts and bruises, were rushed to the nearest hospital for evaluation. Police officials conducted an immediate visual inspection of the collapse site, recording damage and taking statements from on‑lookers.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have launched a formal inquiry to determine why the building gave way. Structural engineers have been tasked with a detailed site assessment, while investigators continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses present at the time of the collapse.
