Verdict Delivered in the Amit Kashyap Murder Case
On Wednesday, Additional District Judge Jaiveer Singh Nagar of Meerut District Court No. 12 pronounced a guilty verdict against Ravita, the widow of the deceased Amit Kashyap, and her alleged paramour Amardeep. Both defendants were escorted out of the jail under heavy security to hear the judgment.
How the Crime Unfolded
The fatal incident dates back to April 2025, when Amit Kashyap was found dead inside his house in the Bahsuma police‑station area of Akbarpur Sadat village. Prosecutors maintain that Ravita and Amardeep plotted the killing.
Prosecution’s Theory of a Pre‑Planned Murder
According to the state’s case, Ravita allegedly restrained her husband while Amardeep strangled him. Investigators swiftly ruled out an accidental death, treating the case as a calculated homicide.
A striking element of the prosecution’s narrative is the attempt to stage the scene as a snake‑bite. After the murder, a live snake was supposedly placed beside the body to mislead the police.
The first person to discover the body was Amit’s five‑year‑old son, Aniket, who noticed his father unresponsive the following morning. Family members arrived, saw a snake near the corpse, and captured the reptile in a container.
Subsequent medical examinations disproved the snake‑bite hypothesis, prompting investigators to shift focus and ultimately arrest Ravita and Amardeep.
Key Witness Testimony
The prosecution called twelve witnesses. Amit’s mother Munesh and his brother Monu testified that they saw Amardeep entering the house on the night of the murder.
A local snake‑charmer also took the stand, identifying Amardeep as the person who had supplied the snake for a supposed religious program, reinforcing the claim that the reptile was deliberately introduced to fabricate a false cause of death.
Defense’s Counter‑Arguments
Ravita did not produce any defense witnesses. Amardeep’s uncle attempted to create an alibi, stating that his nephew was staying at his maternal uncle’s residence on the day in question.
Verdict and Future Proceedings
After evaluating the evidence and hearing both sides, the court found Ravita and Amardeep guilty of murder, thereby concluding the trial phase. Amit’s mother Munesh appealed for a stringent punishment. The sentencing hearing has been set for 16 October.
