New Punjab Congress Chief Pays Homage at Bangla Sahib Gurdwara

Chandigarh – Having just been sworn in as head of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Pargat Singh spent Saturday at Delhi’s Bangla Sahib Gurdwara, joining the congregation in prayer and contemplating the challenges that lie ahead.

Appealing for Unity and “Sarbat Da Bhala”

Addressing reporters after the visit, Singh urged Punjabis to remain united, invoking the timeless Sikh maxim Sarbat Da Bhala – the welfare of all. He reminded listeners that Punjab’s strength has always stemmed from communal harmony, a shared cultural fabric, and a collective sense of responsibility.

Rejecting Party Factionalism

When questioned about circulating rumors of internal splits, Singh dismissed any notion of factionalism. He acknowledged that “differences of opinion are natural in any political organisation,” but stressed that the Congress must function as a single, cohesive entity. Positioning himself as a team‑player, he pledged to involve senior leaders in shaping the party’s future roadmap.

Criticism of the AAP Administration

Singh did not shy away from confronting the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab. He accused the government of mismanaging public assets and the state’s finances, likening the current administration to a “wall of sand” that, in his view, will not stand the test of time.

Condemnation of Divisive BJP Tactics

The newly appointed chief also targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party, branding its approach as polarising. Singh called for Punjab’s political dialogue to focus on the state’s genuine interests and the welfare of its people, rather than on divisive rhetoric.

Immediate Priorities for the Congress Leadership

Singh outlined his short‑term agenda: raise issues that matter to Punjab, reinforce the party’s organisational structure, and preserve the state’s tradition of social cohesion. His elevation follows the removal of Amarinder Singh and Raja Warring as state party heads, ushering in a new chapter for Punjab Congress under Singh’s collaborative ethos.
