Initial claim of an electric shock

On 3 October, staff at BPS Khanpur Hospital informed the police that a woman identified as Ramashwari had supposedly suffered an electric shock at a flat in Sector 15, Sonipat. When officers arrived they encountered the deceased’s daughter Janvi, a man named Vishal and several relatives.

Janvi repeatedly urged the police to forego a full post‑mortem, insisting that the only injury was a shock to Ramashwari’s left hand. Vishal echoed this, asking that any examination be limited to that hand.

After the investigators explained the legal requirement for a complete autopsy, the family reluctantly agreed. As the procedure could not be carried out immediately, the body was stored in a freezer pending the next‑day post‑mortem.

Autopsy contradicts the electrocution story

The medical examiner’s report showed no signs of electrocution. Instead, the findings indicated that Ramashwari died from asphyxiation, with obvious compression marks around her mouth and neck.

These revelations prompted the police to treat the case as a possible homicide and to reopen the investigation.

Suspects, relationships and possible motive

Further probing revealed that Janvi and Vishal were in a romantic relationship and were living together with Ramashwari in a rented house. Investigators suspect that the mother’s disapproval of the couple’s marriage plans may have created friction.

Vishal was taken into custody. During interrogation he gave a detailed narrative of the events on 3 October, which detectives are cross‑checking with forensic evidence and the autopsy report.

Forensic evidence and ongoing probe

The forensic team examined the apartment where the death occurred. Items recovered included a double‑bed sheet with what appeared to be blood‑stained smears and an electrical extension cord, both being examined as possible attempts to stage an electrocution.

The case has been registered at the Sector 27 police station, with ASI Sanjeev leading the investigation. Police are now aligning the medical findings with the physical evidence from the scene and the statements of those involved to reconstruct the exact sequence of events.

Authorities stress that the investigation remains active and that all forensic material, recovered objects and witness testimonies will continue to be analysed before any final conclusion is reached.
