Tanakpur, Uttarakhand – A woman approached the Kotwali police station in Champawat district, asserting that a man had masqueraded as a Hindu, cultivated a friendship with her, and later compelled her to adopt Islam and marry him. The police acted on her complaint, registering a case and taking the suspect into custody.
Allegations Unveiled
The complainant maintains that the accused initially presented himself as a Hindu, establishing a close bond over several weeks. As the relationship deepened, she discovered that he was, in fact, a Muslim. Upon learning his true faith, she says he began urging her to convert to Islam and to formalise their union.
She further alleges that the man threatened to post her photographs on social media platforms if she refused his demands, adding intimidation to the alleged coercion.
Police Action and Investigation
Champawat police officials responded swiftly to the allegation. Acting on directions from the Superintendent of Police, investigators filed a formal FIR under the relevant statutes and launched a comprehensive probe.
During the investigation, authorities gathered statements, digital evidence, and any pertinent documents. After reviewing the collected material, the police proceeded with an arrest that complied with procedural norms.
Suspect Identified
The individual taken into custody has been identified as Nishad Khan, son of Naseeb Hussain, a 22‑year‑old resident of Manihargoth, Tanakpur.
