During a meeting at his Dehradun residence, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed a delegation from the Pradesh Pradhan Sangathan, headed by state president Yogita Kentura Rawat. The gathering focused on the indispensable contribution of Gram Panchayats and the state’s comprehensive rural‑development agenda.
Gram Panchayats: The Bedrock of Rural Democracy
Dhami opened the discussion by stressing that Gram Panchayats stand among the most crucial democratic bodies in India. He pointed out that village heads and elected Panchayat members are the first point of contact for citizens, addressing grievances, steering development initiatives, and ensuring that welfare benefits reach the most vulnerable.
The chief minister described Gram Pradhans as the essential conduit between ordinary villagers and the government, helping to pinpoint urgent needs and devise practical solutions for rural areas.
State’s Four‑Fold Vision for Rural Uttarakhand
According to Dhami, the government’s roadmap for holistic rural uplift rests on four interconnected pillars:
- Infrastructure enhancement – improved road networks, dependable drinking‑water supply, modernised schools, primary‑health‑care centres, and better sanitation facilities.
- Economic rejuvenation – fostering the rural economy through skill‑development programmes, promotion of micro‑enterprises, and farmer‑friendly policies.
- Job creation – generating employment opportunities within villages to curb out‑migration and raise household incomes.
- Inclusive welfare – guaranteeing that every community segment benefits from development schemes, thereby elevating living standards across the board.
He emphasized that Uttarakhand’s true strength lies in its villages, cultural heritage, and agrarian base, and that empowering these units is key to achieving a self‑sustaining state.
Empowering Panchayat Leaders
Dhami urged elected representatives to take an active role in planning and executing projects that reflect the specific needs of their constituencies. He reaffirmed the government’s respect for the on‑the‑ground insights of Panchayat members and pledged to provide them with meaningful platforms to shape development priorities.
Granting Gram Panchayats a seat at the policy‑making table and upgrading core rural facilities were identified as top priorities.
Future Outlook: Joint Effort for Accelerated Growth
The chief minister expressed confidence that the Pradesh Pradhan Sangathan, together with village‑level leaders, will maintain close cooperation with the state administration, speeding up rural transformation and strengthening local governance.
