Uttarakhand Unveils 90-Day Innovation Hackathon to Tackle State Challenges with Technology

Dehradun. On Tuesday, the Uttarakhand Innovation and Solutions Hackathon‑2026 was officially launched at Graphic Era University, aiming to harness technology for the state’s unique geographic and societal hurdles. The ceremony was led by Pradeep Batra, Minister for Information Technology, Science & Technology, and Biotechnology, and saw participation from roughly 500 students, academicians, teachers, technical specialists and budding innovators.

Purpose and Scope of the 90‑Day Initiative

The three‑month marathon seeks to translate youthful energy and technical know‑how into practical tools that confront Uttarakhand’s real‑world problems. Key focus areas include disaster response, traffic and crowd regulation, health‑care accessibility, environmental stewardship, wildlife protection, tourism enhancement, and the promotion of transparent governance.

Technology‑Centric Solutions on the Agenda

Competitors will be encouraged to develop solutions that leverage artificial intelligence, data analytics, GIS, and drone technology to improve public services. Prominent themes comprise AI‑powered government knowledge bases, robust data‑governance frameworks, AI‑enabled GIS mapping, environmental impact analysis, AI‑assisted preparation of DPRs and RFPs, as well as drone‑based aerial surveillance.

Government Endorsement and Vision

Minister Pradeep Batra emphasized that Uttarakhand’s youth and academic institutions possess the creative capacity to devise innovative answers to the state’s distinct challenges. He called on young talent to apply technology and ingenuity to solve the genuine problems faced by citizens.

Hackathon Roadmap

The competition will commence with problem identification and ideation, progress to prototype development, receive mentorship from domain experts, and culminate in a rigorous evaluation. Winning concepts will be offered pathways to pilot testing, incubation support, and industry collaborations.

Targeted Impact Areas

Specific objectives include forecasting traffic loads during peak tourist and pilgrim seasons, monitoring environmental stressors, pinpointing disaster‑prone zones, and enhancing emergency response capabilities. The hackathon will also explore tech‑driven methods to deliver government services to remote mountainous communities.

Organisers and Collaborative Framework

The event is orchestrated by the Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) in partnership with Axolotl Emprise LLP and a network of institutional and ecosystem allies. Its overarching goal is to foster locally‑crafted technological solutions by strengthening coordination among educational bodies, government departments, the tech community and young innovators.
