Kolkata. In a sweeping move within a high‑profile money‑laundering case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched coordinated raids on roughly seventeen locations associated with the Amrit Group and its promoters across Kolkata and Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Wednesday.
Scope of the raids
The agency acted under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), targeting offices, residential quarters and other premises that were believed to be linked to the group’s business activities. Officials say the sweeps were prompted by complaints that a large number of investors had been duped by the firm.
Alleged scheme of high‑return promises
According to the ED, the Amrit Group’s entities and their directors allegedly solicited public deposits through a variety of schemes, touting unusually high returns. The promised payouts, however, are said to have never materialised, leaving investors at a loss.
The current action forms part of a broader investigation into suspected financial misconduct and the possible laundering of proceeds derived from the alleged fraud. While the department has not released a detailed inventory of documents or assets seized, it confirmed that the search was comprehensive.
“The investigation remains ongoing, and further updates will be provided as additional evidence comes to light,” a senior ED official said.
As of now, neither the Amrit Group nor its promoters have issued a comment regarding the raids.
