Bettiah: State officials are accelerating relief measures for those displaced by the recent West Champaran floods, with a goal of crediting direct cash assistance into beneficiaries' accounts before the Dussehra festivities begin.
Speedy Monetary Support
During a press briefing held at his residence on Hospital Road, BJP MP Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal emphasized that every possible step is being taken to aid families and farmers whose livelihoods were shattered by the deluge.
Insurance Payouts for Affected Crops
Landowners whose fields were inundated will be compensated under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. The state Agriculture Department is presently gathering loss data to compute precise payouts. Jaiswal highlighted that the scheme, dormant in the district for almost ten years, has now been revived.
Underlying Causes of the Flood Surge
The MP traced the calamity to a series of events that started with the breach of 13 dams on Nepal’s Trishuli River roughly a month ago. Subsequent three days of heavy rainfall caused river levels in both Bihar and Nepal to rise sharply. The compromised dams also forced a surge of water into the Valmikinagar barrage, putting additional strain on local flood‑control structures.
Embankment Repair Efforts Underway
After a leak was identified in a vulnerable embankment, the Water Resources Department’s secretary arrived on site for an immediate assessment. Within 24 hours, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary visited the affected villages, issued directives, and supervised the launch of repair works slated for completion by Saturday.
Overview of Ongoing Development and Relief Projects
The briefing also reviewed the status of various development initiatives in the region alongside the emergency response. Attendees included Nautan MLA Narayan Prasad, BJP district president Roopak Srivastava, local leaders Ravi Singh and Manoj Singh, and several other party officials.
