In response to a spate of collisions on the Mohabbewala stretch of the Delhi‑Dehradun Highway, the district administration and police have launched a concerted effort to curb future incidents. After a crash on 20 September, the District Magistrate (DM) and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) conducted a joint site inspection on 21 September.
Comprehensive Technical Inquiry Initiated
The DM and SSP instructed the relevant agencies to carry out a thorough, technical investigation of every accident reported in the Mohabbewala zone. The inquiry will examine road‑design parameters, identified black‑spots, speeding trends and violations of traffic regulations, ensuring that no single factor is examined in isolation.
Road‑Engineering Review and Black‑Spot Mapping
During the walkthrough, officials were asked to scrutinise the existing pavement geometry, signage layout, and drainage features to pinpoint any engineering deficiencies. Simultaneously, a systematic mapping of black‑spots and other high‑risk locations will be compiled and fed into the forthcoming action plan.
Speeding and Traffic‑Rule Breaches Under the Lens
Overspeeding and non‑compliance with traffic rules have been singled out as critical contributors. Teams will monitor vehicle flow, record speed patterns and assess driver behaviour to determine how these elements intersect with the physical road environment.
Installation of High‑Visibility Warning Boards
To alert motorists well before they reach the danger zone, large, high‑visibility warning boards will be erected along the stretch. These signs are intended to convey real‑time information about the road condition, prompting drivers to adopt a more cautious approach.
Rumble Strips to Enforce Speed Reduction
In addition, rumble strips will be placed at strategic points where speed reduction is essential. The tactile feedback will serve as a physical reminder for drivers to decelerate and stay alert while navigating the problematic segment.
Rapid Execution of the Action Plan
The DM and SSP emphasized that the drafted action plan must move beyond paperwork and be implemented immediately. All involved departments have been directed to coordinate closely and prioritise on‑ground interventions.
Stakeholder Participation
Representatives from the administration, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and the police took part in the joint inspection, sharing insights on traffic patterns, road conditions and safety concerns.
Integrated Approach for Sustainable Safety
This coordinated inspection follows multiple accidents in Mohabbewala, including the recent September 20 incident. By addressing engineering flaws, black‑spot locations, speeding habits and rule violations together, the authorities aim to create a safer travel corridor on the Delhi‑Dehradun Highway.
