In the early hours of Sunday, a devastating collision took place in the Sachendi area of Kanpur. Sundarlal Kushwaha, 55, and his 22‑year‑old son Manoj were riding a motorcycle back home when a vehicle barreling from behind struck them near the Udaipur Kanjad Dera junction.
Chronology of the incident
The father‑son duo had just left the house of their relative, Phool Singh, and were heading toward their residence in Bambi. Around 10:30 p.m., an unknown car rammed into the rear of their bike, hurling both riders to the pavement. The driver sped away without stopping.
Emergency response
Bystanders promptly called the police. Officers arrived, administered first aid and rushed the injured men to CHC Kalyanpur. Despite the medical team's efforts, both victims were declared dead on arrival. Their bodies were later sent for post‑mortem examination, and the grieving relatives were notified.
About the victims
Manoj was Sundarlal’s only son and worked as a mason. He also leaves behind a younger sister, deepening the family’s sorrow. The sudden loss of both father and son has left their household in profound grief.

Authorities have launched a search for the runaway vehicle. Sachendi police are reviewing CCTV footage from cameras installed around the crash site and nearby streets to identify the make and registration number of the offending car. Inspector Deenanath Mishra confirmed the loss of two lives and assured that the probe is ongoing. Legal action will follow once the family files a formal complaint.
