Kurukshetra: After an intensive five‑day effort, the lifeless body of a 36‑year‑old daily‑wage laborer from Ismailabad was retrieved on Tuesday from the Bhakra‑Narwana branch canal close to the village of Kirmich.

How the Body Was Found and Confirmed

Local residents first noticed a shape floating near a canal siphon and immediately contacted a team of divers. Diver Pragat Singh led the operation that safely brought the corpse to the surface. The recovered figure was cross‑checked with missing‑person alerts circulating on social media and WhatsApp groups, confirming it was Dharmbir, affectionately called Bablu by neighbours.

Dharmbir’s father, Lal Chand, and his brother arrived on the scene, identified the remains, and handed them over to the KUK police. The body was then taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital for a forensic autopsy.

Family’s Account of the Disappearance

According to relatives, Dharmbir left his home on the afternoon of 1 October and never returned. After checking nearby fields, markets, and construction sites without success, the family lodged a missing‑person report at the Ismailabad police station.

His father disclosed that Dharmbir had been dealing with personal stress for some time and often complained of severe hand pain caused by the physically demanding nature of his work. The laborer was the sole provider for three daughters, aged between 18 months and twelve years.

Dharmbir lived separately from his brothers, and no disputes, threats, or enemies were reported by the family.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigation

KUK Sub‑Inspector Sudhir Kumar confirmed that officers arrived at the canal shortly after receiving a tip about a possible body. Following identification by the relatives, the corpse was forwarded for an autopsy.

Investigators stated that the next steps will hinge on the post‑mortem results and any additional evidence uncovered during the inquiry.
