Dehradun. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has moved swiftly after residents of Jyolikot, Nainital, reported that their tap water was unsafe for consumption. A detailed report submitted by the Nainital district administration prompted the CM to order the immediate suspension of six engineers from the Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan and the Drinking Water Corporation, citing negligence in their duties.

Who Was Suspended?

The disciplinary action targets the following personnel:

  • Superintending Engineer (in‑charge) of Jal Sansthan, Haldwani
  • Assistant Engineer, Nainital Jal Sansthan
  • Additional Assistant Engineer, Nainital Jal Sansthan
  • Executive Engineer, Drinking Water Corporation, Bhimtal
  • Assistant Engineer (in‑charge), Drinking Water Corporation, Bhimtal
  • Junior Engineer, Drinking Water Corporation, Bhimtal

In addition, the Executive Engineer of Nainital Jal Sansthan received a formal warning, with the administration signalling that any further breach could attract harsher penalties.

CM Dhami’s Message on Public Health

Speaking on the matter, CM Dhami emphasized that safeguarding public health is a non‑negotiable priority for the state. He warned that officials who compromise essential services will face strict accountability.

“Public health cannot be compromised at any cost. The welfare of the people is paramount, and any officer who ignores this will be dealt with firmly,” said Dhami.

The chief minister also instructed department heads and senior bureaucrats to respond promptly and sensitively to citizen grievances, especially those concerning vital utilities such as drinking water.

This move comes on the heels of another high‑profile directive by the CM, which led to the cancellation of admission certificates for eight students in the NEET‑UG 2026 state‑centralised counselling process after allegations of forged documentation.
