Homs, Syria – A passenger bus traveling close to the Masyaf Bridge in the western countryside of Homs was suddenly ambushed by gunfire, leaving at least seven dead and four wounded. The vehicle was carrying staff of a local firm who were returning home after a full day of work.

Syria’s state news agency SANA reported that the shooters remain unidentified. The injured were swiftly taken to nearby medical facilities, while security forces moved in to cordon off the area.

Official Probe Initiated

Authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine who ordered the assault and why. No organization or individual has claimed responsibility, and officials have not publicly named any suspects.

"We see this attack as an effort to destabilise the region and erode security," said Brigadier General Bassem Mohammad Shaaban, commander of Homs Internal Security Forces.

Forensic teams are collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Workers Caught in the Crossfire

Initial reports confirm the bus was transporting civilian employees back to their homes after completing their duties. Emergency responders rushed the casualties to hospitals throughout the Homs area for treatment.

Officials stressed that the investigation will continue until the full circumstances are clarified and those responsible are brought to justice.

Syria’s Ongoing Security Challenges

The incident occurs against a backdrop of persistent insecurity that has plagued the country for more than 13 years of conflict, even after the fall of Bashar al‑Assad’s government in December 2024. While the authorities strive to stabilise the nation, sporadic shootings and violent episodes continue to emerge across various provinces.
