Kotdwar – A comment posted on social media ignited a dispute that quickly turned violent between Deepak Kumar (also known as Mohammad) and local entrepreneur Sanjeev Tank. Footage from nearby CCTV cameras shows the argument escalating from heated words to shoving and pushing.
Traders Rally at Kotwali
When the video went viral, a sizable group of traders, laborers and BJP cadres assembled outside the Kotdwar Kotwali. The crowd chanted slogans and pressed authorities for immediate action against the alleged provocateur.
Police Place Suspect in Custody
To avert further unrest, police detained Deepak Kumar on precautionary grounds. Additional Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Thakur clarified that the arrest stemmed from a formal complaint lodged by Sanjeev Tank.
According to the ASP, Kumar will be produced before the Sub‑Divisional Magistrate's court as per routine legal procedure, and no individual will be permitted to take the law into their own hands.

Authorities warned that anyone attempting to disturb public peace or engage in unlawful acts will face strict legal consequences.
