Lucknow – Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today commissioned a squadron of 87 interceptor vehicles at Lok Bhavan, signalling a decisive step toward high‑tech policing across Uttar Pradesh. The blend of four‑wheel and two‑wheel machines is intended to tighten traffic monitoring, enhance road‑safety protocols, and reinforce law‑enforcement presence statewide.
Technology‑Driven Policing at the Forefront
Addressing officials and the press, the CM traced the state’s law‑and‑order progress since 2017 and reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to overhaul police work with digital tools. He pointed to the police commissionerate model as a structure that demands strategic planning, decisive leadership, and cutting‑edge equipment to foster a safe environment for growth and civic life.
Smart Interceptor Fleet
Each newly‑deployed interceptor is fitted with sophisticated surveillance suites, GPS‑based tracking and real‑time communication links. These vehicles will patrol busy corridors, congested junctions and other high‑risk zones, feeding instant data to Integrated Command and Control Centres.
Adityanath also referenced the broader Safe City programme, noting that operational command hubs in several districts are already supporting preventive patrols and investigative operations.
Saluting Valor and Service
The ceremony featured a medal ceremony for police personnel who have shown exemplary dedication. Among the honourees was the late STF Inspector Sunil Kumar Singh, posthumously bestowed the Kirti Chakra for his gallantry, with his family receiving the award on his behalf.
The event also marked the launch of former DGP Prakash Singh’s memoir Sangharsh, offering an unvarnished look at police reforms and his long‑standing career on the force.
Road‑Safety Remains Central
Confronting the ongoing challenge of traffic fatalities, the chief minister emphasized that technology‑enabled enforcement, combined with vigilant monitoring, is vital to reduce deaths on the road. Deploying the 87 interceptors forms a cornerstone of the state’s comprehensive strategy to modernise traffic management and safeguard commuters.
Through these initiatives, Uttar Pradesh aims to set a benchmark for contemporary policing, marrying traditional bravery with digital precision.
